I've heard rumors about the "wage gap" in the past, but I never really gave it much attention. I would assume there's a difference in the wages due to the demand of which actor would fit the part best. If a director feels one actor would fit a certain part best, I'm sure they'd be willing to pay a premium to have that actor. I also think the actors should be complaining about only getting 30 million dollars.

I think that if a female is co-starring with a male actor, they should be paid the same. People should not be treated differently or paid differently because of their gender. If similar roles are played by men and women, they should receive the same pay. Women are generally paid less when doing virtually the same job as men. This discrepancy in wages should not exist. If you do the same job, you should be paid the same amount.

I really liked this article because it brought light to the injustice of unequal pay. I believe there should be equal pay not only becauese i am a women but because I believe women are doing the exact same job as men so should pay be different. This article not only states the injustice it shows the facts behind it. Women as just as good as men if not better so women she have the same opportunity to get the same pay as the men.

This article was very interesting to me. To me it kind of says women naturally make less than men. It says women make 18% less than men in similar jobs. I feel if women and men are doing the same thing like the same job then they should get paid the same. I don’t think it’s fair. I know I would want to be paid the same as a male if we’re doing the same thing.

It is a fact, as said in this article, that women are payed less than men. Although it is a problem in society that there is such a pay gap, the lowest paid celebrity still makes more than more than 50% of non-upper class people. In my opinion for someone who makes millions of dollars a year should not be complaining that they don't make as much as their co-stars, male or female. The gap in pay has been an issue for years, and I personally don't see it going away anytime soon.

This is not right how this is still going on. Women are still not getting equal pay for equal work. This has been going on for far too long to continue. I'm honestly tired of hearing how bad and boastful men are because we get paid more, its irritating. Just pay the women what they've earned and get it over with, because the comment Jennifer Lawrence made on men offended me greatly. I think if you care so much, make it public, show everyone how segregated the hollywood system is, and move on. Quit dragging it on if you're not going to do anything about it. Just saying.

In a perfect world the pay for actors should be the same. However, we don't live in a perfect world. Society is biased and so a movie studios. i think though, that an actors pay should be based off of their performance on set and the overall profit of opening day. This is just my opinion on how actors should be payed. I do think that the algorithm that they would use to pay actors how I said, should be the same for both male and female actors.

I think women and men should be paid equally whether they're actors or just every day workers. It's totally unfair that actresses are being paid less because they work just as hard if not harder then male actors. I think a reason woman are paid less is because the industry models after male actors and the male actors are more praised by fans than female actresses which could be a factor. Also I think they try to swindle the woman knowing they won't make such a big deal out of it but I don't think that'll work for much longer. In the future I hope to see actresses paid more and equal.

There will always be dispute about women getting paid as much as men. Most male action stars do a lot of their own stunts, so they should get paid more for putting their bodies on the line. Don't get me wrong though, women can do their own stunts too, but to a certain extent. I feel that everyone does get paid different, but there's nothing they could do to change it.

I think that actresses should achieve the same pay as men. My rationale is through the work the actors and actresses put in. For instance, if there is a physically demanding role in which the female and male are equally a part of then both should make the same pay. Through this, there would be no logical explanation as to why the female would be paid less.

After reading this article, I can see the frustration of the female actors but, the argument is at the end of the day pointless. I understand that there are many women in very well known films and movies. I can simply argue the reason why the male actors are pain more. Male actors have a more noble and intimidating role in a lot of the movies. The males who are the higher paid males all have very intimidating, noble, masculine roles. The problem with this is a woman wouldn't have the natural profile as a man would. When you try to pull such an idea off with a woman it wouldn't be as it would originally have been with a man. Men just have the all around attributes in any role, but the woman whom have accompanied most of the higher paid actors were the glue to it all in most films. The balance with pay is "off" because of the demand of certain roles.

Equal pay between genders is not only in Hollywood and the film industry. US Women's soccer national team also has the same problem. They went on strike in order to show that equal pay for them is fair. I believe that the film industry is different than this example. The actor with the main role should get the highest salary whether they are a man or woman. This just seems to be the best way to pay actors. The amount a company pays the actor should be the company's choice, but often the actor has standards that have to be met in order to be hired. This could mean that Jennifer Lawrence does not have a high standard on how much she should be paid where Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson does. This may be because Dwayne was once a wrestler and wanted more money when he became an actor. All I am saying is that being paid by importance and popularity seems to be the way to go.

I think that all actors and actresses in Hollywood should get equal pay. Day after day, they work so hard in movies or TV Shows that are upcoming or movies or TV shows that they were in. In the End, they should be proud of all the hard work that they put into something like that and that's why there should be equal pay in Hollywood instead of one actor/actress getting all the glory.

I don't think it is right at all. Women have worked so hard for equal rights. There should be no reason why the same ranked actor and actress would get different pay. Gender should have no factor, especially in acting! I love Melissa McCarthy...and she is funnier than a lot of male actors in my opinion. I just hope that one day a talented woman actress can make as much as a talented male actress.

After reading this article, I did not know what to think. As your average white boy from Wisconsin, I do not invest much time learning about the Gender wage gap. It is apparent that women make less in films than men do. However, it is hard to say whether Hollywood film directors are sexist or if the consumers of movies are sexist. After all, it is true that male actors are more highly demanded than female actresses. If you asked 100 people whether they would like to watch a movie with a top male actor like Matt Damon or Leonardo Dicaprio, or one with Jennifer Lawrence or Melissa Mccarthy, I would bet that most of the people would watch the movie with Dicaprio or Damon. Whether this is just or not, people have to remember that movie producers are giving the consumers what they want, they are not woman's rights activists.

In my opinion, Dwayne Johnson is a great actor and has been in so many great, BIG movies. He deserves his pay and if that means being one of the top male actors, then so be it. Lawrence on the other hand, I seen her play in just the big movie, The Hunger Games. She is young and makes a bunch of money to be so young!

I honestly had no idea that this was even still an issue. I can't believe that Jennifer Lawrence only makes 70-something percent of what Dwayne Johnson makes. I don't quite believe that it has anything to do with gender. I feel like it takes into consideration the age, movies they played in, and their popularity. I feel like it's based on how successful they have been or will be. Then again I really have no idea. I just never saw it as a gender prejudice kind of thing.

I think that there should be equal pay in Hollywood but they pay should be based off the demand for the actor/ actress and a pay scale. For example if an actor/ actress is being demanded for a role and they accept and are paid 2 million for said role their counterpart should also be paid 2 million. This will allow any given actor/ actress to be noticed for their skill in the acting world and to be payed equally to each other; where they are no longer competing with the opposite sex, but within their own gender group.

Statistically proven, women make less money than me. I think that this should only be argued and acted upon in the middle class. There are people in the lower class who would love to have a job or even make half as much as a woman in the middle class. Here is an article about actors who are making millions of dollars. Despite their gender, both are very successful and have no reason to feel bothered by a pay gap. Making $100,000 is a milestone for anyone, and making 10x that is simply a blessing. If this article were about minimum wage being compared due to gender, then I would be intrigued. Given the criteria that this article is set under, I am not amused.

After reading this Article, I could see why female actors would feel as if Hollywood is more favorable into paying male actors than female actors. The article goes into detail about Dwayne Johnson being the top paid actor in Hollywood this year with earning 64.5 million dollars. Dwayne made about 20 million more than Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer is the top paid female actor in Hollywood according to the makings of the year 2016. 18 male actors took home over 20 million dollars, compared to only 4 female stars , that in itself should be obvious on how Hollywood tends to pay actors according to sexual discrimination.

Personally speaking, this isn’t surprising at all to me. I mean women of course women should get paid more and there are many phenomenal actresses as well as actors but if I’m being honest if you’re not a white male don’t expect to be equal or treated as such. That’s the world we live in unfortunately where skin color, genitalia, beliefs, etc. can be the deciding factor for a lot of things.

I have read in the past about the discussion regarding the “wage gap.” By what the article says, it is certain that men get paid more than women do when it comes to movies. I do not know the reasoning behind this gap difference in pay. In my opinion, men and women should be paid equally if they have the same role in a movie.

In the article it is talking about salary gaps between actors. Dwayne Johnson is the highest paid actor with 65 million dollars. Most men There are only four women who are as highly paid as men with only 20 million. Jackie chan is second, then Matt Damon then Tom Cruise and lastly Johnny Depp. Lastly I think there are all over paid.

It’s true that, when talking about this topic, the focus needs to remain on those who are receiving an average amount of pay. It’s hard to see the point of the issue when talking about high-paid actors - people who are very well off, no matter how large the wage gap may be. I think it’s good to bring attention to it, though. It’s empowering to see women actually taking action, especially famous women who use their popularity to convey a positive message to the public. If a man and woman are doing the same job and the jobs are done equally as well, they should receive the same amount of money for that job.

I can see why female actors feel like Hollywood favors/treats men actors better. It is obvious that there is a wage gap in Hollywood. You can see the Dwayne Johnson makes over 60 million a year, while Jennifer Lawrence only made around 40 million. I don't see why there would be a wage gap due to the fact that men and women have completely separate roles in films. So you couldn't say that men do a better job than women in this field.

The wage gap between the top paid actors to the top paid actresses, pointed out in the article, highlights a problem that is already happening in America and countries around the world. This honestly is a very dumb problem. There shouldn't be a wage gap at least one that is made on the basis of sex or race. Wage should be based on work, ethics and skill and supply and demand. If a women is better than a man at a certain job and works for it she should be paid more and vise versa. At the same time you have to take into account the how supply and demand for certain actors and actresses affects the wages, so if there is higher demand for male roles in films or males in any job at all they will be paid more. For example much less men are going to college in the last decade or so, and this is making colleges pay men more than women to go to college because there is a higher demand for them.

Men and women are equal but in some divisions they are set apart and have different task to perform. Lawrence is a great actor but she is still young and she doesn't have the experience Dwayne has.

I think that there shouldn't be equal pay in the showbiz industry. This goes for males and females alike. I feel as if you should be paid the amount that the director feels is necessary to attain the actor or actress. If an actress is needed and the director feels that this part needs someone like Sandra Bullock, she should be paid accordingly. Even if this means that an actor like George Clooney as the supporting role isn't as important and gets paid less than her. This is shown in Gravity as Sandra Bullock made 70 million plus while George Clooney made around 20 million.
